Today is Republican primary election day in Alabma and Mississippi.
Here are some poll results of questions asked of Republican primary voters in
Mississippi:
and Alabama:
which indicate that majorities of respondents in those two states do not believe in evolution (66% and 60%) and believe Barack Obama is not a Christian (88% and 86%).
How else can one describe these results but to characterize them as indicators of bigotry and ignorance?

GRAPHIC: Yes, Sex Discrimination Still Exists
The Economix blog at the New York Times examined college majors and their impact on the persistent wage gap between men and women (women get paid on average 81 cents for every dollar a man makes). Interestingly, the only major where women were paid (1%!) more than men for the same exact degree was Information Technology. In Mathematics, males were paid 3% more than women ($53,200 versus $51,900) in their median starting salaries.
In their article this interesting image (shown above) depicts how the gender gap in wages persisted even through various levels of education. Notice how the light blue (male) bar graphs are always aslightly longer than the pink (female) bars for every single category. Note also that as one gets more education one's median salary also goes way up.
Of course, if you ask people "Does discrimination against women still exist?" I think most Americans would say "No."
It's precisely because graphs like the above still exist that I am proud to call myself a feminist (which basically means: women and men should be treated equally and fairly; the wild proposition that gender and sex are not valid means for discriminating or differentiating humans).

Please Support American Promise
I saw this Kickstarter appeal at Kenneth Walsh's Kenneth in the 212 blog. It's a film by parents of two Black boys who have been following them around with cameras for the last twelve years to document the experience of Idris and Seun as they try to overcome the pressures and barriers which cause just 1 out of 4 African-American boys to graduate from high school.
These are topics near and dear to my heart so I encourage you to watch the video pitch above and then support the filmmakers so they can finish the film.
Hat/tip to Kenneth in the 212.

WATCH: Heart-rending video by bullied teenager
It was made by a kid about to go into eighth grade who had been bullied since second grade.
The video has received over 3,000,000 views on YouTube and multiple twitter shout outs from LGBT-supportive celebrities.

#FAIL! No Referendum On FAIR Education Act
Well, well! The heterosexual supremacists at StopSB48.com have officially admitted that they have failed to collect enough signatures to place a referendum on the enactment of the FAIR Education Act on the 2012 ballot.
This is great news because despite the hysterical pleadings of StopSB48.com and the (mostly religious) professional homophobes who supported the signature gathering campaign, all the bill would do is make sure that the contributions of LGBT citizens are included when the historical contributions of other marginalized groups are also taught. This is what our opponents call "the homosexual agenda."
